The International Club of Ascites (ICA) is a non-profit scientific organization dedicated to advancing knowledge and improving the management of ascites and its associated complications.
Since its foundation in 1990, The ICA has pursued the objective of harmonizing definitions and diagnostic criteria related to ascites and its complications, while actively promoting high-quality research in the field. Over the years, its scope has expanded to other conditions associated with decompensated cirrhosis, including renal dysfunction, infections, and other systemic complications.
The International Club of Ascites is dedicated to improving the understanding and management of ascites and its related complications.
It works to establish clear and consistent medical terminology, develop expert guidelines for patient care, and support collaborative research across institutions.
ICA actively leads and supports international research projects focused on complications of cirrhosis and ascites.
It promotes international collaborative studies to assess the epidemiology, risk factors and management of complications of cirrhosis. Through these multicenter efforts, ICA helps generate real-world evidence that improves clinical decisions and ultimately leads to better care for patients with cirrhosis.
Over the years, the International Club of Ascites has published numerous scientific papers, including key consensus statements and major multicenter studies.
In addition to consensus papers, the Club has published impactful international studies on the global epidemiology of infections and acute kidney injury in cirrhosis.
Membership in the ICA is open to all individuals with a scientific interest in this field. Today, the Club brings together around 400 members from across the world, creating a strong network of clinicians, researchers, and investigators.
